Yankee Rose - From humble beginnings to international supermum
Randlab's Dr Michael Robinson was working as assistant trainer for David Vandyke when a diminutive black filly entered the stable in August 2015, beginning what has become an epic international journey.

I well remember the day that the diminutive black filly first walked into the stable. At barely 15.2hh, she was smaller than most, but walked with the confident swagger characteristic of many small horses.
I fondly remember she had only cost a mere $10,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic Sale. An ordinary pedigree and her lack of size dictating her sale price.
.
I remember feeling impressed with her first eTrakka
reading after her initial gallop. Her stride length was 6.48m, which was outstanding for such a small and inexperienced filly.
I remember feeling elated when she came from near-impossible positions to win her
first and
second race starts at Rosehill.
I remember feeling fortunate when I backed her in September at 100-1 to win the Golden Slipper the following March.
I remember being scornful the following Autumn, when all the experts said she could not win the Golden Slipper first up. No horse had previously even run in the Slipper without having a preparatory race.

Yankee Rose's weanling foals were nearly as big as she was when sold for $2.8M and $4.8M respectively. The diminutive filly with the big heart has turned her $10K purchase price into a $12.8M windfall. That's a 1280x return on investment with more to potentially come.
