Tales from the sales
It was great once again to see some well-known Hunter veterinarians with some serious skin in the game following the Inglis Easter Yearling Sales.

A fitting sequel to Dr Richard McClenahan's sale topping yearling at the Inglis Classic Sale earlier this year.
Dr Bridget Bester from the Hunter Equine Centre in Scone, along with her bloodstock guru partner, James Bester sold the top priced filly at the blue chip yearling sale when their I Am Invincible x Hips Don’t Lie filly brought $1.95M. Not only was this the highest price filly at the exclusive sale but also the top price of the second day, a position usually reserved for a colt.
But it seems that Bridget may have had some misgivings about selling. "I was a bit teary, we love the horses first and foremost and to have one that beautiful is amazing and to let her go is sad," she said. "But to see everyone appreciate her that much is amazing. The mare is literally the gift that keeps on giving and she is just incredible." You can watch an interview with an excited Bridget & James soon after the sale

Not to be outdone, Dr Padraig Kelly was also making Sales headlines. As well as running a busy practice, Padraig and his partner Rae-Louise own Fernrigg Farm in Denman and were responsible for selling a yearling that gained some notoriety in social media given that he was orphaned soon after birth.
The foal, known to stud staff as "Ronnie" was originally fostered onto another mare that had recently foaled down. The mare accepted Ronnie and managed to feed him along with her own foal for several weeks until an appropriate foster mare could be found. The two “stepbrothers”, both by Merchant Navy, eventually became great paddock mates before ending up as 'roomies' at the Inglis sale where Ronnie sold for $120K and his stepbrother for $300K.
