Champion mare Goldikova dies
Champion international mare Goldikova, a winner of an unprecedented14 Group One races in her homeland France, England and the USA, died recently aged 16 years.
Goldikova is the only European-trained horse to have won more than 10 Group One races and the only horse to have won three Breeders' Cup Mile (USA) races.
Goldikova was trained throughout her career by French trainer Freddy Head who had this to say about his former champion mare. "She was a mare totally out of the normal run of things who had extraordinary physical attributes. She never had a day during her entire career when I had to stop with her; she was made of steel. She could take the training and the racing like very few horses can. She was exceptional.
Goldikova's legacy will live on through her image on the ubiquitous blue Gastropell Daily label.
